How will the city engage the community?
Your input is critical to developing a vision for Downtown San Fernando. The Downtown Master Plan will be informed by an inclusive, accessible, and transparent outreach and engagement process to allow the community to provide meaningful input at every phase of the project. Opportunities for outreach and engagement for the Downtown Master Plan will occur across four methods: 1) inform, 2) consult, 3) collaborate, and 4) other. For more information, click HERE to view the project’s Community Outreach and Engagement Plan that was approved by City Council on July 17, 2023.
INFORM – The community will be informed of the project in a variety of ways – online and in-person, and in both English and Spanish – through a project website, social media, flyers, texts, and postcards that will be mailed to every address in the City. These methods will help to provide project information, keep the community informed about upcoming events, and allow the public to view project documents.
CONSULT – The community, stakeholders, and City leaders will be consulted for their input multiple times during the project. This will consist of two online community surveys, one of which will be open to the general public and the other which will solicit feedback from a random sample of San Fernando residents via text and phone. In addition, we will also conduct focused discussions with a Community Advisory Committee (CAC), comprised of selected community stakeholder representatives, as well as public hearings with the Planning Commission and City Council.
COLLABORATE – Of prime importance will be collaborating with the community. Over the course of the project, we will host three in-person events, including a walking tour, a model-building pop-up party, and a showcase celebration. Each of these events will be open to the public and offer fun, family-friendly, and interactive opportunities to participate in the visioning process and provide input about the community’s ideas, needs, issues, concerns, opportunities, and aspirations for Downtown San Fernando.
OTHER – Lastly, the community can take advantage of other, more traditional methods to provide feedback outside of those mentioned above, including filling out comment cards located at key Downtown locations and/or contacting the City’s Project Manager via phone or email.
